State to Maintain Annual Inspection Requirement
Maine House Bill (HB) 167, introduced by State Rep. Richard Cebra, R-68, would have required all state-registered vehicles to undergo a biannual safety inspection. Maine currently requires an annual safety inspection. The bill failed in committee at the end of January.
Robert L. Redding Jr., ASA’s Washington, D.C., representative, said, “We are pleased to see the legislature move so quickly and decisively against this ill-advised bill to weaken Maine’s safety inspection program. Regular preventative maintenance improves the overall road safety for the states’ residents and visitors alike. We also want to thank ASA members for contacting their legislators in opposition.”
